In recent years, the number of hotels on the Costa Blanca that have opted for renewable energies to help the environment and meet energy costs has increased considerably. According to Hosbec, more than one in four accommodations now generates its own energy from its hotels or resorts. The Magic Robin Hood resort (located next to Benidorm), has been one of the latest to undertake an ambitious action in this regard, carried out in two phases to achieve clean and sustainable energy generation.
The hotel establishment of the Magic Costa Blanca chain already has more than 2,000 panels (more than 750 installed recently and more than 1,200 last year) with an installed power of more than 1,100 kWp. After an investment of more than 750,000 euros, 75% of the resort's cabins now have this source of clean energy, from which all the cabins in the resort benefit. It is estimated that with this work, the resort will no longer generate 444.4 tonnes of carbon emissions per year, the equivalent of planting more than 11,000 trees.
Magic Robin Hood, like all other Magic accommodations, has been awarded the international Bioscore environmental certification, which demonstrates its strong commitment to sustainability and the protection of the planet. For years, the resort and the rest of the hotels in the chain have been carrying out different actions with the aim of eliminating plastics and paper, reducing water consumption and promoting the responsible use of energy.
Sustainable measures for responsible and committed tourism
With these more than 2,000 solar panels, the resort continues to work towards its future self-sufficiency and to reduce its impact on the planet. In recent years, the accommodation has implemented other measures such as the use of electric buggies for internal transport, encouraging online check-in to avoid wasting paper and the use of reusable cups, chilly bottles and filtered water fountains to avoid the use of single-use plastics.
Javier García, vice-president of Magic Costa Blanca, has highlighted the importance of committing to responsible and sustainable tourism and that, as far as possible, hotel activity should have a positive impact on society: "In recent years, travellers' interest in accommodation that is committed to the environment has grown. This is one of the criteria that can tip the balance when choosing a trip, so hotels and resorts must guarantee the wellbeing of their guests and employees, but also contribute to protecting the planet. With the installation of solar panels in most of the cabins at Magic Robin Hood Resort, we have taken a step towards becoming a holiday resort with a zero carbon footprint.
